Why I collaborated with Tope Alabi –Goke Bajowa

Gospel singer, Goke Bajowa, has been in the music industry for the past 10 years and may not have been as popular as he is now.

It took him just to feature celebrated gospel singer, Tope Alabi, for him to ‘blow’ all of a sudden. Now, Goke Bajowa is gradually becoming more popular.

Speaking on why he chose to feature Tope Alabi in his latest album, Ojumo Ire, Goke said, “Tope Alabi is our big sister. She has a lot of followers. She wanted to help me out in the industry so that more people would identify with my music. I was the one that needed her and I am grateful that she accepted to feature in my song,” he said.

And now, Goke said the acceptance of his music has been awesome since his latest album came out.

“People have been calling me from everywhere. The acceptance has been incredible. I am really excited about it,” he said.

Goke, who said he has been doing gospel music since he started his musical career, explained that he grew up in the church and has listened to gospel music all his life, thus the reason he had to do gospel music and not secular.

“I think God wanted me to be a gospel singer. Whenever He wants you do something, He would put you in a place where you would get acquainted with whatever He wants you to do or be. All my life, I have been used to gospel music. Although I appreciate good music even if it is secular, I think God wanted me to do gospel and impact lives,” he said.

Enyeama must apologise – NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation insists Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama must apologise for questioning the security situation in Kaduna ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Chad on June13 in the city.

Enyeama had said he was not satisfied with the choice of Kaduna, following the current security conditions and challenges in parts of the North.

“I am concerned because of the security thing. I really don’t care where we play as long as there is going to be security and safety of the players and everyone coming to watch the match,” Enyeama had said.

But the NFF was upset that the captain of the national team made such   comments and queried the Lille goalkeeper. His case was also referred to the Ordinary & Disciplinary Committee of the NFF.

The NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, said the “uncomplimentary comments” cost the football body a huge sum of money.

The committee was ready to listen to Enyeama’s explanation on Tuesday, but the player did not show up, saying he was not invited.

“Enyeama was not at the sitting in Abuja on Tuesday because he was on holidays. However, his comments about the choice of Kaduna for the game against Chad were quite unbecoming,” Chairman of the committee, Christopher Green, was quoted as saying on SuperSport.

“He must apologise for his actions or face severe actions.”

The 32-year-old, who is the most capped Nigerian player with 101 appearances, toldBBC Sport that he was not officially asked to appear before the committee on Tuesday.

“I respect my country and those in charge of our football, which is why I find the whole thing strange,” he said.

“As the captain, I only raised our concerns about the venue before our game, which didn’t go down well with the football authorities.

“I was told to apologise for my comments, which I did immediately, and they told me that’s fine.

“I only received a letter cautioning me about it (my comments) and to avoid a repeat of such. As it was resolved in-house, I thought that was the end of the matter.

“I only found out about a disciplinary hearing in the media but I didn’t get any letter to that effect.”

Why reps exchanged blows during Thursday’s plenary – Daura

The All Progressives Congress member in the House of Representatives, Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura, representing Zango/Baure Federal Constituency of Katsina State, has issued a press statement on the physical battle that ensued in the Green Chamber during plenary on Thursday.

At the plenary, the tension and divided interest among the legislators led to a brawl between the two factions in the chamber.

The statement reads, “We are here on behalf of our colleagues of the APC House Caucus to explain to you the unfortunate occurrence during today’s plenary session.

“The action that occurred inside the chamber of the House of Representatives was in reaction to the illegal and unconstitutional action taken by Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives, an action in his usual tradition of total disregard to the wishes of the majority members of the APC Caucus, the Party itself and the spirit of the Party.

“We are aware of a letter sent by our Party, APC, dated 23rd June 2015, conveying the approval of the party’s principal officers vis a vis the APC House Leader, the APC Chief Whip, the APC Deputy House Leader and the APC Deputy Chief Whip for the House of Representatives.

“This letter by the Party is in compliance with the expressed wish and mandate of the Majority Members of the APC Caucus in the House of Representatives.

“This action of the party and the APC House Caucus is in compliance with the Nigerian Constitution, the House rules and parliamentary tradition, practices and precedents in Nigeria and all over the World.

“But to our surprise and in breach of our privilege and rights as contained in the Constitution and extant House Rules, Mr. Speaker refused to read the letter from our party.

“The Speaker and Deputy Speaker are not Party Principal Officers but are House of Representatives Presiding Officers and by precedent and practice are expected to provide a level playing ground for all members, while the Party Principal Officers are supposed to be the main advocates for their individual party positions.

“The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives are elected by all members of the House of Representatives irrespective of party affiliation and it is also possible under our extant rules for a Speaker and his Deputy to be elected from a minority/opposition party in the National Assembly.

“Therefore, Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives cannot under extant laws and House rules appoint, choose, select, dictate or even provide guidance on how Party Principal Officers emerge or are elected or selected. That responsibility and authority lies with each Party and Party’s Caucus members in the House.

“If I may ask, is Speaker Yakubu Dogara empowered to do that for the PDP House Caucus?

“This action by Speaker Yakubu Dogara cannot and will not be allowed to stand as it will set a dangerous precedent in our parliamentary practice as it will give the Speaker the right and authority to appoint, choose, select, dictate or even provide guidance on how Principal Officers emerge or are elected or selected by the Majority and Minority Parties in the House of Representatives. This action is capable of truncating our democracy.

“As for the claim being made that a particular zone should not be allowed to produce more than one Principal Officer, we say this with all sense of decorum, that this claim is absolute rubbish.

“Precedences were set in the 6th & 7th Assemblies where a single zone, the North-West, produced two and three Principal Officers, respectively.

“We, the loyal and disciplined majority APC Caucus in the House of Representatives are fully committed in ensuring that our party’s and President Muhammadu Buhari’s manifesto, agenda and positions prevail despite the efforts and shenanigans of the opposition party(s) and the few disloyal and undisciplined APC party members in the House of Representatives.

“We are determined in our efforts to utilise all legislative strategies available to us, so as to ensure the compliance with due process and democratic norms and values.

“We shall persevere, come rain come shine!

“We the loyal and disciplined majority APC Caucus in the House of Representatives and the All Progressives Congress have dished out enough of the carrots, it’s time to crack the whip so as to ensure party discipline and maintain order.

“Dare I say, we rode to power on the platform of the party, the party is supreme and thus no one is above the party.

“God Bless the All Progressives Congress.

“God Bless The House of Representatives.

“God Bless Nigeria.

“Thank You for listening.”

Afolayan, Imasuen, Kelani: Producers to beat at AMAA

Kunle Afolayan’s October 1, Lancelot Imasuen’s Invasion 1897 and Tunde Kelani’s Dazzling Mirage are among the films to beat in Nigeria for now, following thier nomination in various categories of the 2015 African Movie Academy Awards.

At a nomination party held at Los Angeles, USA, on Saturday, AMAA shortlisted the three, alongside A Place in the Stars andIyore, for the Bayelsa State-endowed Best Nigerian Film Award category.

But Ayo Makun’s 30 Days in Atlanta, which had earlier done well in the cinema, also proved that it is a force to reckon with, having been nominated for the Best Comedy Award, alongside Iya Alalake andLast Three Digits.

According to a statement from the organisers, while October 1 is nominated in the Best Film in Production and Best Costume Design categories, Dazzling Mirage is also in the latter – thanks to Adebimpe Adebambo, who is the costume designer. Both films are battling with Run(Cote d’Voire), Njinga: Queen of Angola(Angola) and INumber Number (South Africa.)

Invasion 1897, Iyore and A Place in the Starsalso made it to the AMAA Award for Achievement in Make-up, Award for Achievement in Sound Track and Award for Achievement in Sound categories, respectively.

Curiously, the Yoruba film sub-sector, which used to do well in AMAA, takes the back seat this year as none of them is on the Best Film in African Language list, where Timbuktu (from Mauritania),  Triangle Going to America (Ethiopia), Cheetanah (Nigeria),   Juliet and Romeo(Burkina Faso) and     INumber Number(South Africa) hold sway.

Ghana-born actress, Jocelyn Dumas, and her Nigerian counterpart, Ini Edo, are also once again in a big battle for the Best Actress category for their roles respectively in While You Slept and Silver Rain. The two leading actresses were nominated in the same category in 2014.

“Two new revelations in the Most Promising Actor/Actress category are Demola Adedoyin for his role in Kunle Afolayan’s October 1 and Kemi Lala Akindoju for her role in Tunde Kelani’sDazzling Mirage.”

At the ceremony attended by several top Hollywood film makers and their Nigerian counterparts, the Chairman of the College of Screeners and member of the Jury, Mr. Shaibu Husseini, was quoted as saying that there was improvement in the quality of films coming to AMAA every year since inception 11 years ago.

“It is gratifying to note that film makers from the continent and beyond are investing more in their trade and the evidence of their investments are the quality films we see, though there will always be room for improvement,’’ Hesseini said.

Some of the stars at the event were Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Faithia Balogun,O.C Ukeje, Patience Uzokwor, Kingsley Ogoro, Paul Okoli, Chioma Chukwuka, Kunle Afolayan, Emem Isong, Doris Simon, Eniola Badmus, Aki and Paw Paw; as well as Ghana-born Lydia Forson, who is also AMAA’s brand ambassador.

The Chief Executive Officer of AMAA, Dayo Ogunyemi, said its leadership decided to take the nominations event to Hollywood this year to begin the concrete step of taking African cinema to the home of global cinema for a mutually and economically viable cooperation.

Music: Buchi - "It's Still Legal" | @Buchibwai

Buchi, the music minister and missionary, just released a brand new single titled 'IT'S STILL LEGAL' to celebrate his birthday today the 24th of June, 2015. Buchi's birthday is taking a low-key this year because of the importance of the message in the song, and so Buchi has chosen to release it NOW, instead of his traditional 3 years intervals between albums or new releases.

All of Buchi's albums have been released at intervals of three years: 1999 (These days), 2002 (So beautiful), 2005 (What a Life), 2008 (Sound of Life), 2011 (Judah), 2014 (I See)... so why can't SONG 55 wait till 2017?

This song is not likely to make you dance, It's not intended to. This is a song to the church, for everyone who has things to do for God, the time is now!  It's the clarion call of watchmen: Like the "Children of Issachar, Men who had understanding of the times Who knew what Israel ought to do" (1 chronicles 12:32). So RISE UP WHILE IT'S STILL LEGAL to talk about Jesus publicly, before the doors are shut completely.

SONG 55 (IT'S STILL LEGAL) has four different versions, features THREE (3) artistes - Iyke Onka, Farlon Lyte (South Africa), and Sam Jamz; THREE (3) amazing music producers (J-Treash, Ceewai & Iyke Onka); and that very important message. Its not about what version you like best or prefer, its about the message.

SONG 55:

-It's STILL LEGAL FT FARLON LYTE Produced by JTreash

-It's STILL LEGAL FT SAMJAMZ Produced by JTreash

-It's STILL LEGAL FT IYKE ONKA Produced by Iyke Onka

-It's STILL LEGAL FT SOLO Produced by Ceewai

Buchi says "Before I knew that I would ever sing, I always knew that i had a role to play and be involved in a song that would herald the coming of Christ. This is it. I will be eternally grateful if you can as my birthday gift, help, support, share, tweet, post and distribute through your various networks this song, so that this God given message can reach everyone. I Thank You"
